Creekview High School softball coach Jennifer Maloney was surprised today with the announcement that she is the CCSD 2025 Coach of the Year! Coach Maloney, who coaches both slow-pitch and fast-pitch softball, led both softball teams to a state championship within the same calendar year (spring of 2024 for slow-pitch and fall of 2024 for fast-pitch). She was surprised with the Coach of the Year honor at the school this morning by Superintendent of Schools Mary Elizabeth Davis and district staff, along with Shottenkirk General Manager Steve Ferenczy, who presented Coach Maloney with the gift of a one-year lease of a new vehicle from the dealership. Coach Maloney's husband, three children and her parents also attended the presentation.
Coach Maloney has been a head fast-pitch softball coach for 12 years (the last six years at Creekview) and has 239 career wins and personifies the unparalleled excellence and dedication of CCSD teachers and staff. She is a former State Coach of the Year for Georgia High School Association. Her principal, Mark Vance noted in her nomination: "Coach Maloney not only knows how to coach successful athletes on the field, but she instills discipline and lessons that these student-athletes will benefit from long after their playing days are over."
In addition to the vehicle lease from Shottenkirk, Maloney will also receive s a $5,000 BSN Sports credit for sportswear and equipment. The awards program begins with the selection of a top coach for each CCSD Innovation Zone (high school and feeder schools), and those coaches then are considered for the CCSD honor. Judges select the CCSD winner based on outstanding leadership, tradition of excellence and contributions to overall school culture and community.
The Innovation Zone Coach of the Year winners, who each received a $1,000 BSN credit, are: Cherokee HS, Josh Thomas, baseball; Etowah HS, Jordan Tetley, girls basketball; River Ridge HS, Jason Taylor, girls basketball; Sequoyah HS, Mike Saxon, boys basketball; Woodstock HS, Wakely Louis, track.
