CCSD Theatre Programs Excel at Regional Competition

Cherokee County School District theatre programs excelled at regional One Act Play competitions and earned top student awards!

In the Region 5-7A competition, Cherokee High School earned runner-up honors for its one-act play, in “The Old Man and the Old Moon,” and in the Region 6-6A competition, Sequoyah HS earned runner-up honors for “The One-Act Play That Goes Wrong.”  The schools’ programs are led by Cherokee HS teacher Dr. Jodi Burn and Sequoyah HS teacher Cindy Humphlett.      

Cherokee HS senior Wyatt Darnell earned the Best Actor award for his role as Old Man.  It’s the second regional One Act Play Best Actor award for Wyatt, who last school year also advanced to win the statewide One Act Play Best Actor honor as well as Best Actor and other honors at the state Literary Meet.

Etowah High School senior Everett Johnson earned Region 6-6A Best Actor for his role as Will Shakespeare in “Shakespeare in Love.” Etowah’s program, led by teacher Charlotte Forrest, placed fourth overall at the event.

Creekview High School junior Chloe Feibus earned the Region 6-6A Best Supporting Actress award for her role as Norah in “We Are The Sea.”  The Creekview HS theatre program is led by teacher Lark Hylton.

“Bravo to our students for their award-winning performances and production work,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “We’re proud of you for your dedication to honing your theatre skills both on and off stage.  Congratulations and thank you to our outstanding teachers and thank you to all the parent volunteers and business sponsors that support our programs.”

Two Cherokee HS students were named to the Region 5-7A All-Star Cast: Evan Walters and Chesney Wise.  Ten CCSD students were named to the Region 6-6A All-Star Cast: of Creekview HS, Abigail Dougherty and Elizabeth Walter; of Etowah HS, Dane Kennedy and Livia Stetson; of River Ridge HS, Morgan Beavers and Ian Brownlee; of Sequoyah HS, Esteben Horst and Parker Ingram; and of Woodstock HS, Lylah O’Barr and Khalil Pendleton.  The River Ridge HS drama program is led by teacher Rob Fields.

Cherokee High School’s award-winning show cast members are: Turk Blanton, Andre Clark, Wyatt Darnell, Mackenzie Glover, Matthew Hughes, Liberty Miller, Emmanuel Mwangi, Sol “Cheg” Richard, Evan Walters and Chesney Wise.  Crew members, led by student director Liberty Miller, are: Jillian Bergman, Lexi Bergman, TJ Boston, Keira Bryant, Aleah Cole, Ali Cox, Ryder Crumley, Elly Fitzwater, Devon Hart, Mattie Lewis, Mattox Lively, Jack Lorenz, Ace Lovett, Tripp Marion, Vinnie Pinon, Lorelei Sheldon, Jay Trayler, Frog Vassy and Adysen Withrow.  

Sequoyah High School’s award-winning show cast members are: Josh Benoit, Esteban Horst, Hunter Howard, Parker Ingram, Emma Jira, Michael Kimani, Madeleine Markham, James Markham, William McGowan, Angelina Miller, Ben Offenberg, Adrian Perez-Arciniegas, Hailey Thompson and Benjamin Wilson.  Crew members, led by student director Ava Grace Roberts are: Addison Allan, Isabella Allan, Brooklyn Baggarly, Ashton Joel Garcia, Alexander Gilliam, Kate Hamilton, Colton Ingram, Sarrah Janad, Layla Kolowich, Valor Lekas, Archie Mandakunis, Abby McCloskey, Kara Morrie, Zachary Patterson, Noah Popp, Kenia Rodriguez, Morgan Stewart, Bailey St. Vrain, Lana Ward, Lily Ward and Kyla Webb.
