CCSD Students Named to State School Superintendent's Student Advisory Council [2]

Four Cherokee County School District students have been named to the State School Superintendent’s 2022-23 Student Advisory Council!

Cherokee High School senior Brighton Cux, Creekview High School senior Jacob Mavromatidis, Etowah High School senior Madison Borsetti and River Ridge High School senior Nandita Bipin are among the 67 high school students from across the state selected for the prestigious role.  They were chosen by State School Superintendent Richard Woods based on their applications and answers to essay questions about improving public education.

The student advisors meet with Superintendent Woods throughout the school year to discuss how state policies affect their schools. 

“It is extremely important to me to receive direct feedback from those impacted by the decisions I make,” Superintendent Woods said.  “Our purpose at the Georgia Department of Education is to open up opportunities for students.  Building relationships with the Student Advisory Council members helps me ensure our policies are meeting their intended purpose, and allows me to make decisions that will benefit children throughout the state.” 

The Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower will recognize the students at the School Board’s October meeting.

“I’m very proud of Brighton, Jacob, Madison and Nandita for achieving this honor.  I know they will represent their schools and our school district with distinction,” Dr. Hightower said, adding that he looks forward to meeting with the group.  “Our students selected for the state council have provided me each year with outstanding feedback as to how we can continue to improve.  I look forward to meeting with this year’s group and listening to them.”
