CCSD Pathway Profiles: Marketing and Management

Creekview High School students in the marketing and management program get behind the counter to experience their possible career field.

Through the Career Pathway program, students create items to sell in the school store, then market and sell them to their classmates.  

Teacher Ashley Jones, who is in her seventh year teaching and fifth year leading the program, said she loves seeing her students work together creatively. 

“Career classes give students the opportunity to explore careers and experience experiential learning,” said Ms. Jones, who came to her teaching career with a background in public relations and marketing.  “I love teaching this course because I love the creative elements of marketing.  I love to incorporate relevant trends and topics in the classroom to provide students an opportunity to see how marketing applies to so many facets of business.” 

The program has led many students to pursue careers in the field, including senior Peyton Fitzpatrick.

“This class inspired me to major in marketing in college,” she said.  “I enjoy being creative and having the opportunity to come up with new ideas to support our school store.”

Within the Pathway, classes offered include: marketing principles, marketing and entrepreneurship, marketing management.  The program is preparing to qualify for national industry certification.  Students can compete in DECA student marketing association state and national career skills contests.

This Pathway prepares students for careers including, but not limited to: advertising and promotions manager, marketing manager, sales manager, market research analyst, marketing specialist.

The average income range for careers in this Pathway in Georgia is $70,000 to $141,000.  Local and area employers for this Pathway include, but are not limited to: UPS, Edelman, Jackson Spalding Inc., SGK, Cox Media Group, Moxie, PureRed, CMI, Scientific Games, RayCollective, Orion Talent, Verizon, Reliable Heating and Air, Shaw Industries Inc., WellStar Health System, Freedom Powersports, Krystal Restaurants LLC, Main Event Entertainment Inc., Workout Anytime Franchising Systems LLC, Yamaha Motor Corporation.
