CCSD High School Senior Earns National Merit Scholarship
A Cherokee County School District graduating senior has earned a prestigious 2022 National Merit Scholarship!
Justin Bolsen of Creekview HS is among the top 2,500 seniors in the U.S. to earn the $2,500 scholarship awarded by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
“We’re very proud of Justin and all the accolades he has earned, culminating in this top national honor,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. “Winning a National Merit scholarship recognizes a lifetime of dedication to learning, and to serving and leading in your school and community. It also represents the investment of a student’s family, teachers and the community in academic excellence, and we’re thankful for everyone who supports our students. Congratulations to Justin and best wishes!”
Justin, who plans to study education at Brown University, and his fellow Merit Scholar designees were selected from more than 15,000 outstanding finalists who made it through the initial rigorous selection process for the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Merit Scholars are selected based on their accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The selection committee is made up of college admissions officers and high school counselors, who reviewed records submitted by finalists and their high schools including difficulty of courses and grades earned, college-entrance exam scores, contributions and leadership in school and community activities, an essay written by the Finalist and a recommendation written by a high school official.
Creekview’s Senior Spanish Student of the Year, Justin serves as president of Spanish Club and has earned the Georgia Seal of Biliteracy. He serves as secretary of Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society and is a member of National Honor Society and a Georgia Scholar and Superintendent’s Key Scholar award recipient. Justin is a four-year member of the swim team, a varsity letterman and a two-time All-County swimmer. A top scorer for the Academic Bowl Team, Justin also participated in the Jeopardy Teen Tournament as a freshman.
Justin and CCSD’s other seven Finalists also remain in the running for college-sponsored National Merit scholarships, which are announced in June and July.
