Woodstock High School senior Owen Markette earned first place in the statewide social studies quiz bowl, which focuses on early American history.  Active in the school’s JROTC program, Owen’s plans after graduation are to attend college, enter the military as an officer and pursue a career as a drone pilot.  His audio, video technology and film Career Pathway teachers are Laura Antonelli and Jeff Wagner and his JROTC instructor is Gunnery Sgt. (Ret.) Keith Myrick.

Creekview High School sophomore Thomas Wang earned first place in statewide spelling quiz bowl.  A member of the school’s Emerging Leaders program, Thomas additionally entered the conference’s “Activate Dreams” T-shirt design competition.  His audio, video technology and film Career Pathway teachers are Ashley Pruitt and Ed Walker.

“Congratulations to Owen and Thomas for earning state honors recognizing your dedication to learning,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “We’re proud of your success and look forward to all you will accomplish as you continue your studies.  Congratulations also to their teachers and thank you to all of our CTI teachers for supporting our students’ participation in the conference and its opportunities for learning and achievement.”

The Cherokee County School Board and Dr. Hightower will recognize both winners at the school board’s next meeting.
