Congratulations to the winner of the Judy Johnson Memorial Scholarship, presented by the Cherokee County School District’s School Nutrition Association!
Creekview High School Class of 2023 graduate Rachel Lathem was recognized as this year’s recipient at this month’s Cherokee County School Board meeting.
The scholarship honors the service of a dedicated CCSD School Nutrition employee, Judy Johnson, and provides at least one scholarship per year in the amount of $500 to a CCSD graduating senior or recent graduate now attending college.
Applications were solicited by the association, and then were reviewed and scored by its scholarship committee made up of employees and community members.
Rachel will study criminal justice, with a forensics concentration and POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training Council) certificate program, at the University of North Georgia to pursue a career as a criminal investigator. While a student at Creekview HS, Rachel was a member of the photography club and Women’s Empowerment Club, played travel softball and worked part time at Milford Farms. She earned the Principal’s Award, Lamp of Knowledge award and an academic letter.
“I have always wanted to help people and, as a criminal investigator, I will be able to do that,” she wrote in her application, noting her dream job would be with the GBI. “I hope to become a criminal investigator to help my community by keeping them safe.”
